Progressive lens specialist BBGR has announced plans to axe 63 jobs from its sites in Yardley, Birmingham and Salford, Manchester as part of a recession-driven restructure to cut costs.

The 63 jobs will be relocated to several sites in Thailand while remaining staff at the current site in Salford will be moved to new, smaller premises in the Manchester area.

BBGR managing director Shindhe Gunpath said that the changes would allow the company to further develop its global supply chain capability by utilising existing capabilities at the group. 'I would like to assure our customers and partners that BBGR remains committed to the UK market and to retaining a local manufacturing presence.'
