Up to 70 jobs will be lost at BBGR's plant in Salford, Manchester as the company reorganises production as a result of the recession.

The French-owned progressive lens specialist is transferring its prescription lens production to overseas sites in its manufacturing network, according to the Salford Advertiser (July 30).

The newspaper added that some 30 staff would be offered the opportunity to relocate to a smaller glazing facility at a new site in Salford.

In a statement from BBGR, managing director Shindhe Gunputh said: 'The changes we have announced will enable us to fully optimise our existing global manufacturing and supply chain capability, while developing local services.
