BBR Optometry optometrist Neelam Patel has completed her PhD to become the practice’s first resident doctor.

She joined BBR Optometry in 2011 as part of the company’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Aston University. In conjunction with the three year KTP, her PhD focused on the development of a new business model that would allow BBR Optometry to offer more extensive eye care services, a statement said.

Dr Patel said: ‘Community optometric practices are well placed to provide enhanced eye care using advanced diagnostic technology, higher qualifications and participation in local shared care pathways.

‘My PhD provided me with the opportunity to really develop and adapt the existing BBR business model to ensure long-term viability, through the implementation of new diagnostic technologies and patient schemes.’
