A three year OO-developed project aimed at developing high street optometry has won Aston University’s annual Knowledge Transfer Showcase.

Neelam Patel’s project was run in conjunction with Hereford-based BBR Optometry with the aim to develop a new and efficient business plan that would allow it to offer more extensive eye care services to enhance the patient experience.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is part of a UK-wide programme to help businesses improve competitiveness and productivity in partnership with higher education institutions and companies.

‘Optometry practices generate most profit via product and spectacle sales, often providing other services at a loss,’ said Patel. ‘My main aim for the project was to enhance patient care and experience at BBR by implementing several specialist eye care services that would attract a different cohort of patients unlikely to purchase optical products.’
