BCLA appoints new academic chair

Dr Debarun Dutta, a tenured lecturer at Aston University’s school of optometry and current BCLA council member, was appointed as the BCLA’s new academic chair.

The contact lens specialist, with 50-peer-reviewed papers to his name and experience of presenting at conferences across the world, would work alongside current chair professor James Wolffsohn, before he steps aside next year.

Dr Dutta praised professor Wolffsohn’s ‘incredible contribution’ to the BCLA and said he looked forward to ‘inspiring a new era’ including offering scientific and academic guidance to the council.

 ‘This is a rare opportunity to make a valuable contribution within the optometric landscape and shape one of the most pre-eminent conference programmes in this space.
