Over 1,000 delegates from the global contact lens industry are expected to descend on the ICC Birmingham early next month for the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) 2014 Clinical Conference and Exhibition (6-9 June).

For the first time, the free-to-attend exhibition comprising over 40 stands will run alongside the clinical conference for all four days. A special opening day ‘exhibition-only’ preview and drinks reception will take place on Friday June 6.

  • BCLA president Andy Yorke said the new format was introduced to allow delegates to have the time to experience the exhibition as well as the far-reaching conference.

‘As always, the exhibition is free to attend for registered delegates and non-delegates alike,’ added Yorke. ‘There will also be a slightly later opening on the Sunday morning this year, at 10am, to give delegates and exhibitors a little lie in after Saturday night’s partying at the gala dinner.’

The Exhibitors Pavilion will return and offer delegates bite-size pieces of product and technology education within the exhibition hall during coffee and lunch breaks.

Nearly 50 hours of interactive CET for OOs, CLOs and independent prescribers will be available at the clinical conference and CET workshops will offer 18 CET points in total. Clinical lectures and peer review sessions will offer delegates a further 35 points.

York praised the work of conference programme coordinator Nick Rumney and the BLCA events team in producing a schedule that augmented the event’s core CET with practical content.
