Up and coming changes for the profession, such as regulation and new technology, should be embraced as a liberating force and should not be feared according to Ben Fletcher, chief executive of Boots Opticians.
In a wide ranging, exclusive interview with Optician Fletcher highlighted a number of areas that would see great change for the profession in the coming months and years. He also spoke about the value placed on the eye examination.
On technology he said: ‘I can’t believe that my successors will be occupying a world where all of the refraction is done by an optometrist.’ He said technology would continue apace which had the opportunity to free up the clinician to concentrate on other areas.
