BIB Ophthalmic Instruments is to launch a range of new products at Optrafair London, including the Polaris Tearscope.

The new Polaris Tearscope add-on was said to be a replacement for the defunct Tearscope-plus. The new device analyses the quality of the tear film through the evaluation of tear patterns. It uses a system of diffused illumination and non-invasive methodology, capable of assessing the size of the tear meniscus, the quality and morphology of the pre-corneal tear film, and the measurement of non-invasive break-up time, without the use of fluorescein.
