Big names put on a show at BCLA

Latest daily disposable options and multifocal designs were among the new contact lens launches at last weekend's BCLA Clinical Conference.

CooperVision used the conference for the worldwide introduction of its silicone hydrogel daily disposable, MyDay, which will be available in the UK from September. Alcon's Dailies Total1 water gradient lens made its first BCLA appearance, as did the Fusion 1day lens from Safilens, one of several first-time exhibitors.

One notable absentee was the Miru flat pack daily disposable, although Menicon's brand was prominent on the David Thomas stand with the arrival of the Miru 1 month silicone hydrogel lens.

Comfort benefits of daily disposable lenses and properties of the latest materials, including new hydrogel concepts, were discussed on the scientific programme.
