Contact lens manufacturer Bausch & Lomb has slashed 250 jobs from its West Lothian site, following production changes.

The BBC reported that the announcement came after the company decided to cease the manufacture of its SofLens One Day contact lens and the loss of production resulting from this move. Production of other lenses, including the SofLens Daily Disposable product, will continue at the Livingston premises.

Bryan Buchan, director of operations for Bausch & Lomb Scotland, told BBC online: 'This action is necessary to maintain a competitive product portfolio, which helps ensure long-term company growth and health. We remain fully committed to the Scottish operation.'
