Buy-out hope for B&L plant Livingston

Buy-out hope for Bausch & Lomb's plant in Livingston, Scotland.

Labour MSP George Foulkes has suggested a management buy-out could save the Bausch & Lomb plant in Livingston, Scotland from closure, according to BBC Online.

As reported in Optician (11.09.09), the contact lens manufacturer intends to move production from Livingston to Waterford in Ireland and the US, resulting in around 500 job losses. B&L said the move would represent long-term savings of millions of dollars.

BBC Online reported that the possibility of a management buy-out was raised at a meeting between Labour MSPs Lord Foulkes and Mary Mulligan and Scottish finance secretary John Swinney. Lord Foulkes said Swinney had agreed that Scottish Enterprise would look at all options.
