Bausch & Lomb is seeking 195 voluntary redundancies from its workforce of around 1,400 in the Irish city of Waterford.
In a company statement the eyecare product manufacturer said the redundancies were necessary 'to balance manufacturing capacity with demand for products made in Ireland due to changes in the product mix in its portfolio'. It added that it remained committed to maintaining its facility in Waterford, but claimed in order to do so 'inefficiencies must be completely eliminated'.
'We deeply regret having to make employees redundant and we understand that this is a difficult and distressing time for those employees facing an uncertain future,' said a company spokesperson.
