Nearly half of drivers aged above 55 never discuss eyesight in relation to driving ability with their optician, according to new research by Novartis.
The findings from a study of 1,055 adults aged 55 or over in the UK, show that while 52 per cent of over-55-year-olds drive every day, around 45 per cent admit to never having discussed their eyesight in relation to driving safety with their optician.
In addition, six out of 10 know little or nothing about age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
The research was released to mark AMD Awareness Week and is supported by the Automobile Association (AA) and the Royal National Institute of Blind People.
