Darker evenings should bring the importance of drivers’ vision into focus for both patients and practitioners.
Indeed, a new study has shown the impact of glare and dark conditions is keeping some motorists off the road altogether, while others are taking the chance despite not having regular eye examinations.
The research, commissioned by the Eyecare Trust and Westfield Health to coincide with the clocks going back one hour last weekend, found that around a third of drivers did not drive after dark at all.
With vision playing an integral part in installing confidence at the wheel, current government guidance relies on drivers to inform the DVLA of any problem with their eyesight that affects both eyes, or the remaining eye if the driver only has one eye.
