'blink' eye drops can help reduce number of contact lens dropouts

Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), has announced the launch of the first extension to its 'blink' Eye Drop range.

The 'blink contacts' eye drops are designed for use with all types of contact lenses and aim to help prevent contact lens wearer dropouts. The company states that it harnesses the superior comfort and mucoadhesive properties of sodium hyaluronate (0.15 per cent).
The company adds that the resulting formulation has a similar pH and osmolarity to natural tears, thus working effectively in the eye. During blinking, when under shear, the viscosity reduces and the solution spreads easily across the eye but between blinking it offers improved retention.
'Gentle on the eye, the blink contacts will soothe and freshen dry, tired eyes, providing relief for the high percentage of wearers who cite loss of comfort and dryness as the reason for rejecting their lenses,' comments Amanda Cooney, AMO group product manager.
'For many it would appear that the loss of wearing comfort is commonplace and almost accepted as part of the lens wearing experience. We want to give practitioners the tools to make this everyday loss of comfort a thing of the past.'
The company has invested in direct marketing tools to support the launch, including point of sale and educational materials such as a poster showing the functions of the tear film. Samples are also available through AMO representatives.
The new product comes in packs of 20 vials each containing 0.35mls of preservative-free solution. They are suitable for use with all types of contact lenses.
