Boots Opticians has declared its support for the new protocol on children’s eye cancer by adopting it in all its stores.
National charity the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) developed the protocol in response to babies and young children facing serious delays in receiving life-saving treatment because parents were given misleading or incorrect information on the need for urgent examination.
The College of Optometrists-backed protocol aimed to address delays by ensuring all staff working in an optical practice were aware of the main signs of Rb, including a white reflex in flash photographs, recently onset squint, change in colour to the iris and deterioration in vision.
