After 11 years in the post of curriculum manager of applied optics at City & Islington College (CIC), Tony Botten (right) is retiring at the end of August.
He will be succeeded by Trevor Hunter who has been associated with the college since the 1970s where he is presently employer liaison manager.
During his time at CIC, Botten has overseen many changes to the department, including recognition as a Centre of Excellence by the Government Office of London and moving the college from its original home in London's Bunhill Row to its location at Angel. He has also helped develop the Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing together with City University and CIC's Distance Learning Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing.
'Trevor will inherit many exciting future developments for the college, including increased overseas involvement, relocation of the provision and working closely with the General Optical Council to develop a new, registrable qualification,' said Botten. 'All this, we hope, will ensure the future of CIC's provision to the profession and the industry.'
Botten will maintain his involvement with the college and other optical institutions, as well as following his other interests.
