Bausch + Lomb has acquired Innovative Sclerals, a  scleral contact lens firm formed in 1992 under the guidance of scleral lens pioneer Ken Pullum.

The company designs, manufactures and supplies high quality scleral lenses to hospitals and practices throughout the UK.

Amy Rothwell, Head of Marketing at Bausch + Lomb UK and ROI, said: ‘Bausch + Lomb is driven to seek new opportunities and advance the range of lenses available to practitioners and this acquisition provides more access to what has previously been seen as a specialist market.’

Leading optometry and clinical consultant, Jennifer McMahon, who brings a deep level of experience of scleral lens fitting will be working with the team for Innovative Scleral lenses, which will now operate from Bausch + Lomb’s specialist GP (Gas Permeable) manufacturing plant in Hastings.

Andrew Elder Smith, now professional relations consultant (PRC) for GP Lenses at Bausch and Lomb, has been joined by three additional PRCs Nick Howard, Pauline Bradford and Iain May. He said ‘This investment in the  acquisition of the Innovative business and the engagement of these three highly talented practitioners further demonstrates Bausch + Lomb’s commitment to these specialist contact lens modalities.’
