After a long battle with illness, optometrist Brian Roy died on July 21, aged 69.

After managing practices for Wright and Mills in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, Roy bought his own practice in Forest Gate, where he worked for 25 years. He was involved in diabetic screening and contact lens practice and, for Roy, optics was much more than a commercial venture. He was described by the chairman of his local optical association as 'old school'.
