Brian Tompkins has become the new president of the BCLA and Keith Tempany named as president elect.
Outgoing president Susan Bowers presented the BCLA Presidential Chain of Office at last week’s awards dinner at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.
Tompkins said: ‘The chance to lead the best contact lens organisation in the world is something I cannot wait to begin. I hope to bring enthusiasm, passion and fun into every aspect of the contact lens world.’
The BCLA council also elected Jonathon Bench and Michael Kilpartrick as optometric representatives, Nick Atkins and David Samuel as contact lens optician representatives and Dr Sunil Shah as medical representative.
BCLA CEO Cheryl Donnelly said: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members leaving us; their contribution has been invaluable and the legacy of all of their efforts, decisions and commitment will be visible in the association’s activities for years to come.’
At the same event, Tony Martin received the 2015 BCLA Industry Award. Nominated by BCLA Partner Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, he was credited for being at the forefront of Acuvue innovation for 30 years.
