Jonathon Bench has been nominated as president elect of the BCLA

Jonathon Bench, current head of professional affairs at Alcon, has been nominated as president elect of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA).

A BCLA member for over a decade, Bench previously served on the committee for five years and was invited to join the exclusive BCLA executive council last year.

He has experienced a number of roles in optics, having worked for a multiple and owned a franchise practice before joining Alcon five years ago.

Upon receiving the role, Bench said he would like to highlight the benefits of contact lenses further and celebrate the ‘everyday heroes’ in practices who go ‘above and beyond the needs of their patients’.

‘I would encourage all eye care professionals to become part of the BCLA, to learn how we, as a profession, can share best practice and encourage education and professional development throughout the industry,’ said Bench.

He also spoke of his excitement at the opportunity to work with current BCLA president Sunil Shah. ‘It is an honour to have the opportunity to work within the same organisation as Prof Shah. I have a lot of admiration for him on a personal level and for his invaluable work inside the BCLA and beyond,' he added.
