Brien Holden Vision has further signalled its intent to become a major contact lens player with the clearance of a new product for the growing presbyopia market.

The Australian firm has hailed a new generation of extended depth of focus (EDOF) contact lenses designed to use higher order aberrations to optimise retinal image quality over a wide range of distances while minimising ghosting and haloes.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted clearance for the company’s contact lenses, which Brien Holden described as a world first for the correction of presbyopia.

Professor Brien Holden, CEO of the Brien Holden Vision Institute, said: ‘This is a landmark for the Brien Holden Vision Institute, the creation of a new technology that provides clear vision from distance to near while minimising ghosting or double imaging. This is a vital step forward in quality vision for presbyopes.
