Specsavers has unveiled plans for UK-wide expansion, including the opening of 30 new optical practices, including 10 in Scotland, and the creation of 100 new hearing centres.
The announcement coincided with the publication of the group's annual results which showed it had recorded its highest ever turnover at £879m during 2006.
The privately owned chain said its expansion plans would create 400 new jobs in the UK and it confirmed its entry into new markets, including a move into Australia.
The business has more than a 30 per cent share by volume of the optical market in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
