Call for Dallos and Da Vinci entries

The British Contact Lens Association has called for applications and nominations for its annual research awards, with a closing date of November 1.

The &\#163;5,000 Dallos Award funds a year-long research project to further the understanding of a contact lens or anterior eye-related topic. The recipient of the 2001 Award will present their findings at the BCLA's 2002 Annual Clinical Conference. The Da Vinci Award recognises work by those who are not established contact lens researchers, for the best project relating to lens design, clinical research or instrumentation in contact lens practice or manufacture. The winning applicant receives &\#163;1,000 and a conference delegate's package. The BCLA Medal Award goes to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the contact lens field and any BCLA member may make a nomination for the award, which is presented at a special ceremony at the conference, followed by a 45-minute address by the recipient. For details and application forms, contact the BCLA secretary general Vivien Freeman on 020 7580 6661. The next evening meeting of the BCLA will be the presidential address by Cheryl Donnelly on September 7 at the Royal Society of Medicine, London. It has been awarded 1.5 CET points by the College and ABDO.
