Call for telemedicine evidence

The national clinical director asked for ways telemedicine can enhance services

Louisa Wickham, the national clinical director for eye care, has asked eye care professionals to share examples of how telemedicine could enhance service provision.

In a letter, Wickham said it was her priority to transform eye care with technology and was committed to supporting local collaboration between primary and secondary care.

Wickham would like to support telemedicine pilots in each of the seven regions and expression of interest from practitioners was key to making it happen.

‘Technology is not the solution but the enabler to more efficient practices that release the capacity for us to provide care in the right place at the right time for patients,’ Wickham said.
