Provision of eye care services in the UK will be addressed by a new Call to Action for eye health launched by NHS England today.
The consultation, already conducted for general practice, community pharmacy and NHS dental services, was launched by Dr Mike Bewick, NHS England’s deputy medical director.
He told delegates at today's Vision UK 2014 Conference in Westminster: 'Community optometrists do an incredible job.'
'Preventing eye disease and promoting early detection of eye disease through improved access and uptake for routine eye tests are key components of this call to action. Ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate care at the most appropriate time and in the most appropriate location is also vital,' Dr Berwick added.
