The hunt is on for the most innovative introduction to optics.The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers has announced details of its 2002 Innovations in British Optics awards.It follows the success of the inaugural competition which took place earlier this year, when Professor Mo Jalie won the first prize (News, July 27) for his Clinical Demonstrator of the benefit of anti-reflection coating.ÔEntries may comprise a service, a technique or a product, and may come from an individual, a company or other organisation,Õ said a SMC spokesman.ÔIt is hoped that the award will attract entries from the widest possible sphere, embracing all sectors in the provision of eye care and eyewear.ÕThe prizes for 2002 will be: first prize Ð the Spectacle MakersÕ Trophy, a plaque and £1,000; second prize Ð a plaque and £400; third prize Ð a plaque and £200.u Entry forms are available via the SMC, telephone 020 7236 2932/8645.
