Camera offers 3D enhancement

Kowa retial camera

Kowa has introduced a 3D non-mydriatic retinal camera and analysis system which it said offered enhanced retinal images over traditional camera systems.

The nonmyd Wx3D retinal camera is claimed to be a new concept in retinal photography which allows views of the optic cup and disc to be seen in three dimensions.

The unit has three modes of use, normal, small pupil (SP) and 3D. In the normal mode the 12 megapixel SLR camera provides detailed photography and a mosiac system which allows viewing of a wider area. In SP mode screen guides are provided to tell the user if the pupil size is sufficient (above 3.5mm) for photography. In 3D mode simultaneous stereoscopic photography is used to provide a 3D image. The camera takes instantaneous stereo images without having to be moved.

The results of the image capture can be used in a number of ways for disc analysis and reports are output as PDF or jpeg files. The Wx3D also enables a 3D display of the disc to be shown based on the stereo photographic data.

Numerical analysis is also provided such as disc damage likelihood scale (DDLS) scores and graphical representation of cup and disc ratios.
