The event, running from the October 16-22, calls on people to host a dinner in the dark.

It will replace the annual Carrots NightWalk, which was launched in 2011 and raised £480,000 for the charity.

Catherine Woodhead, director of fundraising at Fight for Sight, said: ‘We’re excited to add this latest fundraising initiative to the Fight for Sight portfolio and we would encourage everyone to take part and help raise vital funds for pioneering eye research.

‘We’re looking for diners and charity partners to join the fight against sight loss and work in collaboration with us, in order to fund much needed research into a number of different eye conditions.’
