CET day to focus on qualities and qualifications of DOs

ABDO's Area 7 is to host a CET seminar aiming to build on the skills which differentiate the qualified dispensing optician from the optical sales assistant.

The one-day event, called 'What a difference a DO makes', will be held at the Gypsy Hill Hotel, Exeter, Devon, on March 1 next year. Duncan Counter, past president and ABDO examiner, will speak on balancing bifocal segments, calculating edge thickness and working out prismatic decentration. Fellow ABDO examiner Abi Grute will speak on 'Occupational dispensing - not just for the workplace' and DO Peter Bishop will run a low vision aid (LVA) workshop on the management of low vision. The day is CET accredited with 4.5 points for general dispensing, to include one credit for LVA and one for contact lenses. The event is &\#163;35 for members, &\#163;50 for non-members, with details available from Bethany Ashew on 0779 096 8758.
