A 'north v south' golf competition, as well as plenty of optical education, will be in the schedule for the first joint AOI/NIOS event in many years, next month.
The Association of Optometrists and the Northern Ireland Optometric Society have agreed to host a joint event from April 28-30, at the Slieve Russell Hotel, Ballyconnell, County Cavan.
As well as a trade show - and a social programme which includes a banquet and ball on the Saturday evening - there is an educational programme on the two weekend mornings of the conference.
The education schedule includes: (Saturday) 'Soft contact lenses, past, present and future' by John Meyler, Johnson & Johnson director of professional services; 'Visual fields' by Professor John Wild, University of Cardiff; 'Retinal detachment/macular hole repair' by Jim Sharkey, Royal
Victoria Hospital, Belfast; (Sunday) 'Visual problems following premature birth' by Rosie Brennan of Altnagelvin Hospital; and 'Visual problems in children with Down's syndrome'.
Rosie Brennan will end the educational programme with a lecture on Esotropia.
