UK practitioners had the opportunity to gain six CET points in the Republic of Ireland this month.
The continuing education was available at the Association of Optometrists Ireland centenary convention at the Grand Hotel Malhide, Dublin, held from April 8-10. It is likely next year's conference will offer more CET to mainland professionals.
Around 100 delegates listened to lectures during the conference weekend, April 8-10, from speakers including Roger Buckley and Frank Eperjesi on dry-eye conditions and ocular nutrition subjects.
Over 200 guests attended the Centenary Banquet and Ball on the Saturday night, when PQE graduates collected their fellowship certificates from AOI president Mark Daly.
'It is many years since we held our convention in Dublin and it proved every bit as successful as other venues,' Daly told optician.
'The CET programme was well attended with a good variety of topics.'
This year's three-day event also included a special visit by past presidents of the Association together with guests, including members of the Northern Ireland Optical Society and the Association of Optometrists, to the President of Ireland's residence Aras an Uachtarain.
Plans are already under way for next year's convention, which will be hosted jointly by the AOI and the Northern Ireland Optical Society at the Slieve Hotel, Cavan from April 28-30 2006.
