City, University of London has appointed a PhD student to design an Ortho-k lens to control myopia

City, University of London has announced the appointment of a PhD student to design an Ortho-k lens that will help to control myopia and correct vision.

Jointly funded by No7 Contact Lenses, optometrist Kristina Mihic has joined from her role as clinical tutor at the University of Velika Gorica in Croatia to carry out the research for the next three years.

With the team at No7, Mihic shall explore the results of trial lens designs and materials, and then compare them for optimum hours of wear each night.

She said: ‘Now that we are living longer, we are going to be myopic for longer, and as a result the period during which we are at risk of developing myopia related pathologies will be extended. We are looking at the best means of ensuring the most successful outcomes for patients in the long term.’
