Optician has learnt that the School of Community and Health Sciences of City University in London, of which the optometry department is a part, is to lose 50 full-time staff.
The reduction in the staffing levels comes as a result of a decrease in overall funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (News 25.03.11).
City University will see its overall funding reduced by 10.8 per cent and the staff reductions will affect all departments across the school. Staff were being consulted as Optician went to press.
