City shows off new premises

City University unveiled its new London premises yesterday, when David Edgar, head of its optometry department, opened the Bath Street building.

The department had outgrown the Dame Alice Owen Building location, where it had been since 1977. Clinical teaching for third year students and Continuing Professional Development is now next to Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology. The new facilities include a general eye examination clinic and contact lens clinics, which are open to the public. Each has 13 fully-equipped consulting rooms, using the latest flat-screen test chart technology designed by City's Dr David Thomson. There are clinics for children, the visually impaired and those with binocular vision problems. On November 29 there will be an 'open day' for the profession at the premises.
