City throws a party for new department

London's City University is inviting all ex-students to a special event on the March 26 to celebrate the official opening of its new optometry department.

During the day visitors will be able to tour the new Fight for Sight Optometry Clinic in Bath Street and the teaching and research facilities at Northampton Square. There will be an opportunity to see some of the innovative work the department is currently undertaking, including research on eye movements, pupillometry, colour vision and software for vision assessment. Former speaker of the House of Commons, Baroness Boothroyd, who is also president of Fight for Sight, will officially open the clinic and there will be a number of short presentations about the current activities of the department and plans for the future. This will be followed by a wine reception and buffet. Tours of the Bath Street site will start at 4pm and activities at Northampton Square will begin at 5pm. The wine reception will commence at 7.30pm. There is no charge for the event but entrance will be by ticket only. Numbers are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please contact Rachel Owen, external relations manager, at City.
