CL probe in Hungary

Contact lenses

Investigations have been conducted at the Hungarian offices of CooperVision, Johnson & Johnson and CIBA Vision by Hungary's competition authority Gazdasági Versenyhivatal (GVH) on suspicion of cartel activity in the Hungarian contact lens market.

The offices of the companies Fotex-Ofotért and Kleffmann and Partner were also investigated. Allegedly, information obtained by GVH suggested the companies were exchanging information disguised as market research undertaken by Kleffmann and Partner. GVH said the investigations did not mean the companies had broken anti-trust laws.

A spokesperson for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care in the UK told Optician: 'Johnson & Johnson Vision Care is cooperating with the Hungarian competition authority in its investigation of market data exchanged between certain contact lens suppliers in Hungary.'
