Drinking contact lens solution helped save a British backpacker who was stranded in the Australian Outback.

Sam Woodhead, 18, made headlines last week after he was sensationally rescued after a three-day ordeal in temperatures reaching 40°C. It was reported that Woodhead drank a litre of water he had within the first hour of his ill-fated jog in the Outback.

After getting lost and rapidly dehydrating, he discovered the saline solution in his backpack, which he sipped before also drinking his own urine in order to survive. Woodhead is pictured thanking the helicopter rescue pilots who saved him.
