College approves higher qualifications

Three new higher qualification courses have been accredited by the College of Optometrists.

A new Professional Higher Certificate in Glaucoma has been approved at Cardiff University and City University has had its Professional Higher Certificate in Contact Lens Practice and Professional Certificate in Medical Retina certified.

Cardiff University’s glaucoma qualification will prepare OOs to work in community or hospital-based schemes involving the diagnosis of ocular hypertension and preliminary diagnosis of chronic open angle glaucoma.

City University’s new contact lens course will be delivered through a combination of online learning, face to face lectures and practical workshops. It will give community and hospital based OOs the knowledge and skills to be able to provide an enhanced standard of contact lens care. The Professional Certificate in Medical Retina provides community and hospital based OOs with knowledge of common medical retina conditions and includes topics covering screening, referral and treatment pathways.
