The College of Optometrists has awarded two fellowship awards for research into age-related macular degeneration.
Matthew Cufflin (pictured), a lecturer at Bradford University, will receive £30,000 worth of funding for a study which aims to find out more about the pattern of geographic atrophy progression, to give an understanding of the changes that occur throughout the condition.
'I feel honoured and pleased to be chosen as one of the recipients,' said Cufflin.
The second fellowship was awarded to Graeme Kennedy, a lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University. Kennedy's project aims to enhance the understanding of the effect of glaucoma and macular disease on shape processing.
