The College of Optometrists has awarded the President’s Research Medal to Professor Sir Colin Blakemore for his achievements and contributions to research in the fields of optometry, optics and vision science.
A Professor of Neuroscience and Philosophy at the University of London, Blakemore was presented with the award at the ‘Welcome Collection’ last week when he delivered the College’s Research Excellence Lecture, ‘A visual experience’, to College members and leading figures from the optometric research community.
Speaking after his lecture, the professor said: ‘It’s a very special honour to receive the [award] and to give the ‘Research Excellence’ lecture. I did my PhD in the School of Optometry in Berkeley, California, and the contact with teachers, researchers, clinicians and students in optometry had a deep effect on me, and on my research.’
