Hundreds of UK optometrists gathered in the Midlands this week for the College of Optometrists’ annual conference.

Optometry Tomorrow, at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham, included a full CET programme and featured lectures on subjects including glaucoma, AMD, myopia, ‘bionic eyes’ and blue light.

Its Charter Lecture was delivered by prominent scientist Professor Sir Colin Blakemore. The University of London professor of neuroscience and philosophy gave a presentation on ‘The Doors of Perception’, explaining in detail how the brain processes visual information entering the eyes.

‘Although you spend your lives ensuring people have healthy eyes and have clear retinal images, that is not enough for vision and visual perception,’ he said.
