College publishes Mpox guidance

Guidance for eye care professionals on managing possible Mpox cases (previously known as Monkeypox) has been issued by the College of Optometrists.

The professional body said while cases in Europe were isolated, and none have been reported in the UK, healthcare providers had been advised to prepare for any suspected cases.

It highlighted the two clades of Mpox and the associated symptoms, such as fever, headache, muscle aches, and a rash that progresses through several stages.

Advice on managing suspected and confirmed cases of Mpox was also included, highlighting that it is a notifiable disease and must be reported to a local health protection team.
