Research commissioned by the College of Optometrists has revealed that 76 per cent of British parents are failing to ensure their children wear sunglasses when out in the sun.
The survey of 2,000 parents aged 18-51 across the UK from August 5-7 showed that 29 per cent of those questioned did not even buy sunglasses for their children. Of those that did, 46 per cent said that price was more important than protection and only one in four choose to buy their children's sunglasses from a reputable brand or supplier.
On the back of the findings the College has launched a national media campaign highlighting to parents the risks posed to their children's vision by exposure to strong sunlight.
