The Right Honourable Baroness Boothroyd was among those accepted into membership of the College of Optometrists at this year's diploma ceremony in London's Guildhall.
More than 320 diplomates were in attendance to receive their diplomas supported by hundreds of family, friends and well wishers. Life fellowships were awarded to Anthony Sabell, Richard Broughton, Professor David Henson and David Alexander.
Honorary fellowships were presented to Professor Arnold Wilkins and former Speaker of the House of Commons Betty Boothroyd.
Welcoming new members and guests to the Silver Jubilee year presentation, president of the College David Cartwright said entering the profession should not be taken lightly.
'We must take care not to abuse our position in the minds of the public.'
Optometry had a protected status and with that status came responsibility, he added.
