German lens manufacturer Leica Optical has developed a new progressive lens which utilises a patented mathematical calculation to create the feeling of wearing single vision lenses.
The Variovid Volterra lens takes its name from Vito Volterra, a 19th century Italian mathematician whose calculations have been used in the lens design and in optics for the first time. Optical aberrations are reduced by between 50 and 65% by the ‘equalised’ optical surface.
Available exclusively through Dunelm Optical in the UK, the Variovid Volterra lens won Leica Optical the esteemed Silmo d’Or award at its presentation at Silmo 2019.
