Ms Boothroyd, who has been speaker since 1992, has been a Labour MP since 1973 and represents West Bromwich. Born in Yorkshire, Ms Boothroyd was educated at Dewsbury College of Commerce. Named Spectator Parliamentarian of the Year in 1992, Ms Boothroyd became chancellor of the Open University in 1994. Lord Carrington regularly opened the grounds to his Buckinghamshire home for Fight for Sight events, and a single event raised &\#163;12,000 for the charity in 1997. In November of that year he laid the foundation stone for the now completed new extension at the Institute of Ophthalmology, to which Fight for Sight contributed &\#163;3m. Dr Walker said: 'Lord Carrington has been wonderfully supportive during his time as president.' titan of good design London's Design Museum is to display two spectacle frame collections by Silhouette from the middle of this month. Both collections, Minimal Art and Titan Next Generation, have been created by the company's designer Gerhard Fuchs. The Minimal Art Collection has received the Red Dot award for highest design quality, as part of the international design competition 'Design Innovations 1999', established by the Design Centre in Germany.
