Complaints failing revealed

Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) failed to report complaints about its Complete MoisturePlus contact lens solution for more than a year before it was recalled, according to documents obtained from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The company (now Abbott Medical Optics) recalled the solution after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked it to dozens of cases of Acanthamoeba keratitis in May 2007.

According to an FDA report, AMO failed to promptly disclose nine complaints about the solution even though it began receiving complaints of serious corneal infections in March 2006. However, those reports were not revealed until an FDA inspection in May 2007.
