Court action against Advanced Medical Optics for damages caused by its contact lens solution Complete MoisturePlus has been started in the US.

Dallas-based law firm Schmidt & Clark is representing a southern California couple in what is understood to be a personal injury lawsuit against the company after the product was recalled on May 25.

It is alleged that long-term contact lens wearer Michael Connolly developed Acanthamoeba keratitis in August 2006 after using the Complete MoisturePlus solution to clean his lenses. The complaint cites data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suggesting that people using the solution had a seven-fold increased risk of developing the infection. The Connollys also contend that AMO failed to appropriately reformulate or warn consumers about the risks because it feared losing market share.
