Law suits mount up against AMO

A US law firm has filed four more lawsuits against Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) for damages caused by its contact lens solution Complete MoisturePlus.

A US law firm has filed four more lawsuits against Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) for damages caused by its contact lens solution Complete MoisturePlus.

Lawyers also hit out at plans by AMO to begin distributing a new multipurpose solution globally in the coming months.

Schmidt & Clark commenced litigation against AMO after a 25-year-old long-term contact lens wearer developed Acanthamoeba keratitis after using Complete MoisturePlus (Optician, June 15). This week the firm said four more clients had also contracted Acanthamoeba infections.

The new lawsuits come a week after AMO announced plans to re-enter the multipurpose lens solution market using an existing formulation. Attorney Thomas Moore at law firm Moore Labriola LLP, which is also representing the plaintives, attacked this move, claiming that consumers 'may be misled by the launch of the old AMO formulation'.
